The Secret Messages (2000-2001)

The Winter before I moved from Stockholm to Gothenburg, I got the idea to use red yarn in my art as a way of leaving a trace before my departure. I finger crocheted tiny messages and hung them in various places around Stockholm. Then I did the same thing in Gothenburg during the Autumn. I also filled trees with finger-crochets, and those who found them were asked to solve different riddles. Upon solving the riddles they became members of a secret club. My main interest in this piece was to adress an audience outside the white cube. I wanted to mark out a territory and surprise people passing by. The finger-crochets were the starting point of using yarn in my artistic practice that I still work with parallel to my photographic practice.
